The Windows registry tends to collect obsolete and invalid registry entries over time.  This can cause a lot of problems, including sluggish performance, crashes, freezes, and other problems.  The Windows registry is complicated and it’s not recommended that you attempt to fix it by hand on your own.  There are a few reasons for this, one being that you could make everything worse.

If you need to find a good Windows XP registry cleaner then I suggest looking into either RegCure or Registry Mechanic.  I’ve used RegCure myself and I have found it to be an excellent program that was able to really clean out my laptop of all the obsolete and invalid files and folders that had collected.  This led to increased system performance, including speedy bootup times.
