The Mongoose bikes of old looked very different than they do today.  They were a bit more bulky, and they were certainly much heavier.  I was surprised to test out a new dual suspension, Mongoose Mountain Bike the other day.  It was so light, and light feeling, that pedaling was almost effortless.  Sometimes, when you deal with a light bike, you can have issues going down hills.  The great thing was, I felt like I was in complete control the whole time.  It is rare to have the best of both worlds in a bike.  It was an impressive bike, and I am looking forward to more from Mongoose.
