There are so many ideas out there that allow for someone to represent them. The US has an office of Patents, and there is a process through which all ideas must be patent. There is a patent agent exam that must be taken for someone to be able to represent a person who wishes to submit an invention to the US Patent Office. Someone who would like to represent another’s invention must have a degree in a field of technology. The agent does not have to have a law degree to represent someone, but there are some things only a patent law attorney can do.
