Stealing Oranges
Home March 18th. 2009, 6:10amFor as long as I can remember my family has grown and tended citrus trees. When I was five I remember eating grapefruits the size of my head at my grandmother’s house. Throughout high school I would help my mother in preparing fruit boxes to give out to our neighbors and family friends. I was always confused and taken aback when I went to my friends’ houses for dinner and there was no plate of delicious orange and tangerine wedges to go along with the meal. What gardener doesn’t want to grow such great food! Breakfast consisted of oatmeal or cereal accompanied by grapefruit with a large spoonful of sugar dumped on top of it. I would encourage everyone in the appropriate climate to keep a citrus tree or two because they are so easy to tend to and they produce fruit like crazy.
