Brisbane is filled with administrative, commercial, industrial, and cultural center. It has shipyards, oil refineries, food-processing plants, textile mills, automobile and telecommunications plants, and railroad workshops and furniture outlets known as brisbane furniture stores, but in recent years tourism and commercial expansion have dominated the city’s development. Extensive suburban growth has accompanied the city’s rapid increase in population. The majority of retail business is done within the suburbs of Brisbane in shopping centres which include major department store chains. There are 3 major Westfield shopping centres in Brisbane located in the suburbs of Chermside, Mt Gravatt and Carindale. Other large shopping centres exist at Indooroopilly, Toombul, Mitchelton and Stafford.
