The main thing that moves the electric car is the motor. In the conventional car, it is the internal combustion engine but in the electric car, the batteries provide power to the motor which moves the car forward. For this reason, the motor is the single most important fact that will make the car move forward.

The motor works like any other motor except that in this case it is making the car move instead of just turning around. There are many kinds of motors available. Some will enable the car to carry more load but travel at a slower speed whilst others can carry light load but will go fast. Others will last long and others short. It all depends on the budget of the buyer and the use to which he wants to put the electric car conversion.
