A treasure was uncovered in Oakville, Iowa following the big flood of 2008 by the Mississippi River.  The village, now referred to as Oak Village shows the remains of a village of Native Americans that lived in the area between 300 and 400 AD.The village is in very good condition for the retreval of the artifacts buried for so long under the ground.  There will be approximately 200,000 artifacts obtained from the site and taken to the state historical office where it will be curated. The remains of humans have not been found and there isn’t any expectation that there will be.  The site is a unique opportunity for archaeologists to answer a variety of research questions about the Weaver cultural tradition.
